Metro commuters face delay on Joka-Majerhat line due to technical snag

Commuters on Kolkata Metro's Purple Line faced inconvenience on Tuesday due to a delay caused by technical glitches. The Metro Railway Authority announced a temporary change in the train schedule between Joka and Majherhat, extending the time gap between the two trains from 24 minutes to 40 minutes.

The schedule change was notified through an official press release issued late Monday night. “Tomorrow, i.e., Tuesday, due to some mechanical glitches, there will be an increase in the time gap between two metros,” the statement read. A total of 38 metro services—both up and down—will operate for the day.

Despite the reduction in frequency, the Metro authorities confirmed that the first train from Joka would depart at 8:00 a.m., and the last service would leave at 8:00 p.m. Similarly, the last train from Majherhat would depart at 8:20 p.m., keeping the start and end times unchanged.

This disruption comes shortly after the Metro authorities had increased the number of trains on the Purple Line. On May 13, services had been ramped up from 18 trains to 62, significantly reducing wait times. However, Tuesday's rollback to 38 trains has temporarily dampened the earlier relief provided to daily passengers.

Maintenance work has already begun to address the mechanical faults. Officials have assured that normal services will resume once the issues are fully resolved. They have also urged commuters to check the updated schedule before travelling.
